The Red Heifer.
And the Lord spoke unto Aaron saying: This is the ordinance of the law which the Lord hath commanded saying, speak onto the children of Israel, that they bring thee a red heifer without spot, wherein is no blemish, and upon which never came a yoke. When a sacrifice was make for the sins of the people, it was always a male without spot or blemish, but this was the first time a female was used.
They were to burn the entire heifer, including her blood, flesh, and dung, outside of the walls of the tabernacle. The ashes of the heifer, when mixed with water, would be sprinkled on the individual who had sinned. When the children of Israel were on the march to the promised land, they could not stop, put up the tabernacle, go through all the ritual of offering an animal for their sins.
If my math is correct, and there were only two million on the march, and only one in one thousand committed a sin per day, they would have had to set up the tabernacle every day outside the camp, and offer up two thousand animals per day. But God provided a better way, with the ashes of the red heifer.
We no longer go through the ritual of sacrificing an animal for our sins, nor do we have to burn a red heifer, because God has provided a better way for us also, and His name is Jesus Christ. He is God’s only begotten Son, born of a virgin, died on and old rugged cross, outside the walls of Jerusalem, and rose again. He is the sacrifice for your sins today. All He asks is that we believe in Him, and ask in Jesus name for the forgiveness of our sins.
