And to the Angel of the Church in Laodicea:
I know your deeds, that you are neither cold or hot: I would that you were cold or hot. So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot or cold, I will spit you out of my mouth. Because you say, “I am rich and have become wealthy, and have need of nothing,” and you do not know that you are wretched and miserable, and poor and blind, and naked
They were really poor, when they thought they were rich, because they had made no provision for their souls. They were also blind, because they could not see the light, that they thought was in them, was nothing more than darkness. They were also naked because God was not abiding within them.
They had rejected the deity of Jesus Christ, and this caused them to be spiritually naked. He was telling them in verse 19 that ” those whom I love, I reprove and discipline: be zealous there-fore and repent.
In verse 20, Jesus says: “Behold I stand at the door and knock: if any hears my voice and opens the door, I will come into him, and dine with him, and he with Me.
If the church of Laodicea were the upright Christians that they thought they were, Jesus would not have to stand at the door and knock, because He would already be in them.
Many Church’s even today have left Jesus Christ out, while comfy feelings and soft sermons are seen to be the norm.
Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior should not have to stand outside, and knock to be let in.
