Hebrews 13:5

I will never leave you, nor forsake you.

We live in the country, and have a lot of wild flowers that burst forth each Spring.

One of these is a tiny purple flower, with five petals that seem to display its beauty among the dry grass that lines our driveway. Each evening as the sun begins to go down, one by one the petals begin to fold up, until it is looks like a stub on the end of the plant. It is as though the little plant has put a shield, and hedge of of protection around itself, against the dangers of the night. Much like we pray and ask God for the same thing.

In the morning as the sun begins to rise up over the horizon, one tiny petal will peak forth, and then the rest will follow. Each petal lifting up toward the sun, in a display of worship to the God of creation.

As I watch this, my mind goes to Matthew 6:28-29 where God say: And why are you anxious about clothing? Observe how the lilies of the of the field grow. They do not toil nor spin, yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory did not clothe himself like one of these.

Sometime in our busy weeks, we forget that God is always with us, never leaving nor forsaking us.
