Mark 13:8

For nation will rise against nation, and Kingdom against Kingdom; there will be earthquakes in various places, there will also be famines. These are merely the beginnings of birth pangs.

We all have a tendency to worry about food shortages, and famines. We have children and the elderly to feed, as well as ourselves, but our Lord tells of another kind of famine; hunger for the Word.

In John 6:35 Jesus said to them , ” I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me shall not hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.

Amos 8:11-12 tells us: Behold, days are coming declares the Lord God, when I will send a famine on the land, not a famine for bread, or a thirst for water, but rather for hearing the word of the Lord. And people will stagger from sea to sea,, and from the north even to the east. They will go to and fro to seek the word of God.

We have a mission to go out into the world, and preach the gospel, not to just show up in Church on Sunday, greeting one another, singing a few worship songs, listening to the sersom for the week, and forgetting about our neighbor, that needs to hear about the bread of Life. “Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
