Ephesians 2:8

For by grace are ye saved through faith: and that not of yourselves: it is a gift from God.

In my younger years, I worked as a meat wrapper in a small butcher shop, and the man I worked for did not want to discuss religion, and informed me not to make a habit of trying to talk about it.

I had recently given my heart to the Lord, and was not that familiar with scripture, having only been told that all I had to do was believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and I would be saved.

The few times he did talk about God, concerned the Ten Commandments, and he believed he was saved because he followed them and tried to live by them. I had read the Ten Commandments, but working all day with him, there were some things I heard and saw that did not go along with them.

I used to laugh when a costumer came into the shop and ordered a half of beef. He would ask them if they wanted the right half or the left half. They would always ask him what the difference was, and he would tell them that a cow laid on it’s right side, so the left would be the tender side. Naturally they would order the left side, and when they left, he would go into the walk in cooler and bring out any side of beef that was closet to the door.

As I became more knowledgeable in God’s word, the scriptures became more alive to me. I began to see that we are all born into sin, and when we reached the age of accountability, it is up to us to either stay in sin, or to believe that “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word became flesh and dwelt among” That He was born of a Virgin, died on a Cross for our sins, was buried, and rose again. His name is Jesus Christ, and if we have faith in the scriptures and believe,, that when we die, our spirit will go to live with Him in Heaven for eternity.

I never got the chance to tell my friend, but maybe it is not to late for you. All you have to do is ask Jesus Christ to come into your heart, and believe in Him.
