And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day.
When they heard the sound of Him in the garden, they went and hid themselves from His presence. They were expecting Him to come. They recognized the sound of His approach. God had told Adam and Eve, they could eat of any tree in the garden, but not to eat of one certain tree, or they would die. This was the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Being tempted by Satan that they would not surely die, they ate of the forbidden tree.
Then the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, “Where are you?” and for the first time they didn’t come running! They didn’t come calling out to Him, full of laughter and smiles. The joy at His presence was missing; instead they were hiding behind trees, ashamed and afraid.
He made a way so that we don’t have to be ashamed, to hide from His presence, or to live our lives afraid. He made the way for us to come into His presence and spend time with Him. That way was provided when he sent His only son to die on a cross for our sins.
You can experience that joy and love also, by asking the Son of God (Jesus Christ) to come into your heart, and ask Him to forgive you of your sins.
