Matthew 5:16

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

When I first became a Christian, I had no example to neither follow nor even try to imitate. I had grown up in a home that did not follow God, but still had love for each of their children. As I struggled through what I was supposed to do now that I accepted Jesus Christ, I was a very poor example of the light shining through me.

Many people that knew me before were surprised to learn that I was going to Church. They did not know God themselves so were very confused by my actions. I rode the fence that I was attempting to climb over, and in my confusion did not show the light to them. Instead I was a shadow of what God wanted me to be.

Jesus said in John 8:12 “I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” With this scripture we know that when we follow and accept Jesus Christ, we have the light of life.

If we do not accept Jesus Christ as our personal Savior and Lord, His light does not shine out from us. We then become like the color black which does not reflect any color that it absorbs, because it has no color to reflect. We then cannot reflect light in any form back to God, nor to the world.

If no light reflects out from us if we call ourselves Christian, then how can the Holy Spirit work through us? He (the Holy Spirit) cannot come in without being able to get out and glorify our Lord Jesus Christ.
