Psalm 119:105

Thy word is a lamp to my feet, and a light to my path.

When I was a little girl, we lived on a ranch that had no plumbing. Without this basic necessity you can imagine what my sisters and I went through, because we had to use an outhouse. We were sure there were monsters their just waiting to attack us, the minute we went outside in the dark. We had been living in town with all the comforts, and then my parents decided to move to a cheaper home due to the loss of work for my father. At first the idea was exciting with plenty of land surrounding us to play in, but then the night came with all those monsters. None of us wanted to go outside alone, and asking another to go with us brought a lot of excuses of why they couldn’t go.

My parents tried to tell us there was nothing in the dark to be afraid of, and their was no monsters. A lot they knew, because we were sure that we had seen something, or at the very least someone or something was rustling the leaves on the trees, as we made a hasty, or rather mad house run for the outhouse and back to the safety of the house.

:One Sunday morning the pastor was preaching from Psalm 119:105, and as he talked on this verse, I began to think back on my early childhood, and how much I would have liked to know more about this lamp and light.

He talked about having an outhouse when he was a child, and the fear that he had, and how his dad had told him to take a lamp with him as he walked out, and to follow the light because it would be a lamp for his feet to follow. He said as long as he had a lamp, that the light kept the fear away.

Today, I keep the word in my heart, as a lamp to my feet, and a light for my path, as I walk with the Lord each day.
